Hosting

All hosts are NOT created equal. During my time on our support staff over the last 10 months, it has become apparent that upwards of 90% of new users have unidentifiable problems with their theme or WordPress installation that are directly traceable back to their host.

Hosting should be transparent and of the utmost importance when you decide to start a site or when you decide to migrate to a better, more affordable solution. Here are some things to look for in a hosting plan all of which are available from HostGator and Bluehost:

  • several GB, if not unlimited, of storage space
  • several TB, if not unlimited, of transfer traffic
  • multiple SQL databases (at least 25-50)
  • multiple domain hosting for no extra charge
  • cPanel with Fantastico for WordPress and other automatic software installations
